Skyhawks Comes Up Short In American West Bowl III

by Ronnie Roosendaal

The Wenatchee Valley Skyhawks traveled down to Pasco, WA this weekend to play the defending champs in their home stadium. The Tri-City Rush. The Skyhawks battled hard all game but struggled to catch a rhythm. Star quarterback Lorenz Stefan never gave up hope and battled each play to make it work. Receivers Max Novak, Nakia Brown, Calvin Lowe and Martin Tew played hard and combined for a lot of opportunities through the air. Running Jordan Laurencio played great and provided a touchdown on the ground. The offensive line was matched against the league's leading pass rush. Their work was definitely cut out for them but they battled every play and were highly commutative on their experience. The defense provided a great game by creating turnovers against the rush, 1 interception by Asan Evergin and 2 fumble recoveries. 1 by EJ Armstrong and 1 by Gabe Collins who returned it for a touchdown. The score was 42-32 in the middle of the fourth. The Rush kept their confidence up and was able to close the game with a final score of 57-32. For the amount of adversity and a roller coaster of a season, the Skyhawks managed to climb their way into the AWFC championship game for the first time in their 3 year existence. Although they came up short, they will have a tremendous amount of returning players and players returning to the organization. The Skyhawks thank their fans and the City of Wenatchee for their continued support and will be back stronger than ever next season. GO Skyhawks!!!
